April 1, 2020 -- Wichita State University's Center for Economic Development and Business Research (CEDBR) has created three visualizations to help policymakers, businesses and economic developers understand the level of economic vulnerability created by the novel Coronavirus.

March 27, 2020 -- Jeremy Hill and Wichita State’s Center for Economic Development and Business Research has identified the number of jobs, establishments, and wages classified as essential and nonessential, following the emergency order in Sedgwick County for individuals to stay-at-home and only leave their residence to perform essential activities.

March 19, 2020 -- One of the most vulnerable sectors impacted in the United States by the novel coronavirus is food services and drinking establishments, which accounted for 7.3% of all jobs and $1.6 billion in total wages within Kansas in 2018. The following examines the economic value of the industry and the potential impact on the Kansas economy.

Feb. 5, 2019 -- Bryant Lewis from Olathe Kansas received the Linwood Sexton Endowed Scholarship in 2019. The full-ride scholarship allowed him to pursue his dream of attending WSU.

Dec. 16, 2019 -- Courtney Powers, music director at South Philadelphia High School, is in the running for a Grammy of her own for her work in music education. She is currently one of 25 quarterfinalists for the award.

Dec. 4, 2019 -- Javier Martinez and Jonathan Lozano hadn’t even intended to earn Wichita State’s inaugural Parkinson Scholarship in 2018, but they did. Both first-generation college students share their stories of adversity and triumph and offer words of encouragement for future first-gen college hopefuls.

Nov. 14, 2019 -- Junior business management major Maribel Sanchez is taking full advantage of the opportunities provided by Wichita State. She is a first-generation student, Gore Scholar, studied abroad in the Netherlands this past summer and was invited to speak at a national conference.

Nov. 7, 2019 -  Levi Lowe, a senior majoring in applied computing and psychology is a first generation student who works 40 hours a week. Lowe works to pay for school on his own but was awarded a scholarship to help make ends meet.

Oct. 17, 2019 - Senior industrial engineering student Sydney Jaeger is making the most of her college experience. It’s not always easy, but she finds a way to balance time as an engineering intern, student, member of WSU Cheer and a campus leader.

June 19, 2019 - Cayleigh Beshears, a recent graduate of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, has let her circumstances guide her, but never define her.

March 22, 2019 -- Wichita State University has been named to CollegeNET Inc.’s list of Social Mobility Innovators for 2019. Making the list means WSU has a proven track record of successfully enrolling students from low-income backgrounds and graduating them into promising careers.

March 5, 2019 -- Wichita State University has been awarded $4.2 million dollars in funding from the U.S. Department of Education to implement GEAR UP in Haysville school district USD 216 through 2025. Every student in 6th and 7th grade will benefit from GEAR UP’s college prep resources.

Feb. 28, 2019  -- Sandra Sanchez is a first-generation student who will graduate with a degree in social work in May 2019

Feb. 15, 2019 -- Former Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson and his wife, Stacy, have established a generous scholarship at Wichita State University to help children of undocumented immigrants earn their degrees to pursue the American Dream.

Dec. 19, 2018 -- As a nontraditional student who was the first in his family to go to college, the thought of college was scary for David Bustos-Morales. But spurred on by the desire to make his family proud, he pushed through and graduated in December 2018.
